Do People like their first names?

Names are important to some peoples. Because the our name, every people can knows the character of each person and a name has a special meaning that our parents give to us. So, what is it about names that maks them important? Why do they matter? In the book The Language of Names. Justin Kaplan and Anne Bernays seek to answer such question. “names Penetratte the core of our being and are a form of poetry, storytelling, magic, and compresed history,”the authors write. “Apparently there has never been society able to get along without them. They are among the first things we ask or learn when we meet someone new, and we use them to form immediate but often-unreliable conclusions about personality and ethnicity.” Names define us. “They’re the anchor around which we build our identity,” Evans said. “When you think of yourself, the first thing you think of is your name”. The professor of psychology at Belleveu University, who has studied given a names for more than 20 years. “A great many people-more women than man-go through a period during their adolescence where they dislike their name as part of the general adolescent concern with identity and what other people think of them,” he said. “But I think for most people these feelings subside by the time they are in their 30s.” Most people, Evans and other psycologists say, go through life with a favourable view of their names.

That kind of situation happens to me, too. And I don’t like my first name. Not dislike my name but many people who like to make my first name fun. My name is Siti Rohmah, and everyone who didn’t know me always called me ‘’Siti”. “Siti” That looks familiar, right? But not for me. Siti has a very good meaning, the meaning is ‘’a glorified women”. Many people assume that the name Siti is a traditional name and not suitable for use in the current era. It took a long time to change my nickname to someone. In elementary school, all of my friends call me Siti. In another class my friend is also named Siti. My friends think that me and her are twins. Well, this one which makes me also do not like my first name because my name is too general.
